Since the last major gathering of our tattooing community in Tahiti, which was held in November 2019, opportunities to come together and celebrate the art of tattooing in French Polynesia have been limited due to the pandemic. It is with immense joy that we announce the revival of these moments of sharing through the organization of the Tahiti Tattoo Fest, led by the ‘Āina Tātau association and represented by tattoo artist Tagaroa (Tana) Tokoragi. This event will take place from November 28th to December 1st, 2024, at the Le Tahiti by Pearl Resorts

For its first edition, the festival celebrates a rebirth and renewal, allowing for a deep reconnection with the heritage and culture of Tātau, while also embracing modern tattooing. The event will honor Tavana Salmon, a pioneer in the revival of Polynesian tattooing, recognized for his crucial role in the reintroduction and promotion of traditional tattooing in Tahiti.

This exceptional event will highlight the rich heritage of Polynesian tattooing, with a particular focus on the theme ‘Tavana Salmon – Return to the Roots.’ This festival will honor the art of traditional tattooing, celebrating the cultural roots of this ancestral practice, while also showcasing the new generation of tattoo artists using machines.

The Tahiti Tattoo Fest 2024 will bring together for four days the best carefully selected Polynesian and international tattoo artists. The event will feature 53 tattoo artists, including 47 using machines and 6 practicing traditional tattooing. The program includes an opening ceremony, meetings with the tattoo artists, exhibitions, tattoo contests, activities, and a music concert. This festival aims to be a celebration of the art of tattooingю
